Lightning Rock Winery Awarded Lieutenant Governor’s Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 22, 2018

SUMMERLAND, BC - The results are in and Lightning Rock Winery has a new award to add to our list! We are excited to announce our 2018 Canyonview Pinot Noir was awarded a silver medal in the 2020 British Columbia Lieutenant Governor’s Wine of the Year Award.

Our Canyonview vineyard is located on a windy south facing terraces of gravel and loam overlooking Trout Creek and the bears that live there. This Pinot Noir is a beautiful experiment between three tanks of varying whole cluster percentages. After spontaneous fermentation, the juice was lightly pumped over and then pressed after 21 days on skins to neutral oak puncheons. It then sat on lees for 8 months and is unfined and unfiltered.

Winemaker Jordan Kubek describers this wine as ‘one that opens and evolves in the bottle beautifully. Think rose petals and delicate cherries merried together with fresh mint and flint.’ This is the second Lieutenant Governor’s award for Jordan who won an Award Of Excellence in 2014 for 'The Bub' whilst working as the head sparkling winemaker at Okanagan Crush Pad.

Earlier in the year Anthony Gismondi awarded the wine 88 points describing it as follows: ‘ The attack is firm and dry with bitter cherry on entry and a youthful tightness that runs through a spicy finish. The alcohol is a super moderate 12.5 percent, leaving the fruit centre stage.’

Canyonview Pinot Noir 2018 can be purchased online /product/2018-Canyonview-Pinot-Noir or through a retail location /Contact-Us/Where-to-find-us.

The third annual 2020 British Columbia Lieutenant Governor’s Wine Awards were announced on October 16th by the Okanagan Wine Festivals Society.

In 2018, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, with support from the Government House Foundation, and the Okanagan Wine Festivals Society announced a new partnership to celebrate BC wines with the creation of the British Columbia Lieutenant Governor’s Wine Awards. “We look forward to building on this important relationship each year”, says Okanagan Wine Festivals Society General Manager, Elan Morris, “and we were thrilled last night to have Her Honour, Janet Austin, be a part of the virtual awards ceremony and announce the 2020 BC Lieutenant Governor’s Wine of the Year.”
