I want to have *drinks* on the beach

Summerland city council voted YES to sipping on the beach this summer.

As of June 1st, alcohol consumption will be allowed at three Okanagan Lake beaches in the Summerland community: Rotary Beach, Peach Orchard Park, Powell Beach.

The Summerland Chamber of Commerce requested a responsible liquor consumption pilot project for 2023, modelled after a similar project implemented in Penticton during the pandemic, which has since become permanent.

The pilot project is set to run from June to August, 12pm to 9pm daily.

Some wineries from Bottleneck Drive marked the occasion with a soiree on kick-off evening at Peach Orchard Beach.

“This initiative aims to enhance the overall beach experience for residents and visitors, promote local businesses, and showcase the diverse range of locally produced food and beverages available in the Summerland area,” said the group in a press release.

After your winery tour, chill your wines lakeside and sip to your heart’s contentment. We encourage everyone to please enjoy responsibly. Be respectful of the shared public space, keep the parks and beaches clean and welcoming for all, and ensure glass is handled with proper disposal at a local bottle depot or by dropping off empties to our nearby winery.
